Before joining Photonic, Sarah was on the senior leadership team at Microsoft Studios in Vancouver as the Director of Business Development and Strategy. She joined Microsoft through the acquisition of BigPark, where she was the Chief Financial and Operating Officer. Before joining BigPark, she was the Director, Financial Planning and Analysis for Electronic Arts. Sarah holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University, an MBA from Harvard Business School, and is a Chartered Professional Accountant of British Columbia.

During his years with Atira, Chafik has helped owners in taking care of their properties and in maintaining good tenant relationships. Jose is from Queretaro, Mexico and came to Canada in August of 2001. He attended Simon Fraser University with interest in learning disabilities and equity gaps for those with diverse learning abilities. He also studied and focussed his attention on suicidality and crisis prevention. During his time at university he worked for the Center for Accessible Learning’s note-taking program where he would make sure that students had equality of access to lecture materials by closing the information gap caused by large classroom sizes and poor acoustical or visual conditions. He was also heavily involved with the Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Center of BC, answering crisis calls and providing suicide prevention talks in local high schools. Jose started working for Atira in 2009 as a support worker at the Arco Hotel, became the Program manager in 2011 and has had several managerial roles within his 12 years at Atira. He has also been training staff in “non-violent crisis intervention” for last four years and after the COVID 19 pandemic hit Jose collaborated with the Director of Talent to create an online version of the training.  Jose became the Director of Supportive Housing and Tenant Relations in February of 2020 and has since focused on supporting Program Managers so they can provide the best possible care to the members of the community we serve. Jose believes in creating a housing environment that is accepting, respectful, caring and safe, and where tenants have influence over their living situations as he believes this is the foundation for health and wellness.

Meghann started working with Atira Women’s Resource Society in 2014 as a volunteer after graduating from Thompson Rivers University with a BA in Sociology.

She spent several years working as a Women’s Support Worker before moving into the role of Facilities Manager in 2019, and Senior Facilities Manager with the Atira Property Management Inc. SRO Portfolio before moving into the role of Director, Facilities & Maintenance for both AWRS and APMI SRO Portfolios.

 

Meghann’s current work is informed by her early experiences working with Atira as a support worker - understanding the day to day operations on the front lines and allowing her to understand the diverse needs of the portfolios, advocating for the safety and needs of our tenants and staff when liaising with Atira’s stakeholders. With a  focus on building structure and improving processes within a fast paced environment, Meghann strives to ensure that the work she does will provide safe, accessible, and adequate housing for the tenants that Atira serves.

Adam joined Atira in May 2008 as a front-desk relief worker and within three months accepted a full-time position at one of the Single Room Occupancy (SRO) hotels managed by Atira.

Since then, Adam has continued to take on more responsibility, including being a building manager, program manager, portfolio manager, a licensed rental manager, Director Operations for the SRO Portfolio and Senior Strata Manager.

Throughout his career with Atira, Adam has always gone the extra mile; at his own initiative, including setting up web forms, creating innovative and helpful technology solutions and when necessary, mucking in sewage for the people who work for and live in the SROs as well as the stratas we manage, often after hours and on the weekends. In an industry plagued with high staff turn-over, Adam’s length of service with Atira is a testament to both his commitment to Atira and its mission, vision and values, and to our clients.

Along with his tenure, Adam’s creativity, honesty, integrity and great sense of humour have proven him to be the perfect candidate to take on the position of Atira’s Managing Broker since 2017.
